Right next door to the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany, sits the Autostadt, a 25-hectare automotive haven that attracts car enthusiasts from all around the world.
Children have Legoland. Car lovers have the Autostadt (Car city).
Against a backdrop of lush green hills, serene waterways and cutting-edge architecture, the theme park is a charming journey through the world of mobility, made all the more appealing by its many car-themed attractions.
Since its opening more than a decade ago, the Autostadt’s grounds have amassed a series of modern buildings that house everything from a museum, a cinema, a string of restaurants to various interactive installations. Every major Volkswagen Group brand is also represented throughout the park in eight pavilions that are designed to bring the respective brand philosophies to life.
One of the most popular attractions has to be the AutoTürme (CarTower), a twin 16-storey glass edifice that stores up to 800 freshly assembled Volkswagen vehicles, ready to be picked up by their new owners. These giant parking structures are located adjacent to the manufacturing plant, where the newly-assembled vehicles are rolled out onto a conveyor belt in an underground tunnel. The cars are then hoisted up into their prescribed destination in the one of the towers, all executed with superb technical precision.
The Autostadt is also home to the ZeitHaus museum. As the world’s most frequently-visited automotive museum, this multi-storey glass building houses many historical Volkswagen cars as well as milestone vehicles produced by other manufacturers. Car lovers will go wild over all the iconic models on display. They will also read and discover how each model played an important role in accelerating the development of the automobile in terms of technology, design or concept.
The Autostadt is not just for car lovers though. As a compelling event venue for concerts and performances, it attracts cultural enthusiasts and culinary aficionados as well. The 13 restaurants (nine operated by Mövenpick) here offer a wide variety of all-natural, seasonal food sourced from the local region. The Autostadt also offers plenty of things to do and see for people of all ages. With Wolfsburg just a 45-minute drive from Hannover Airport, it’s a perfect venue for a family holiday.
From exploring the latest developments in vehicle design and technology in the CarDesign Studio, to discovering more about the concept of sustainability in an interactive multimedia exhibition at LEVEL GREEN, visitors will not be short of things to do.
Yet, the success of the Autostadt is not only based on its wide range of activities. Another important factor is the outstanding service quality. This is where each and every guest is treated like a king. The idea is to ensure visitors feel welcome as guests and return home with fond memories.
